  • The Smiths -

    The Smiths: Very Best Of
The Smiths were and continue to be influential to many artists all around the world. The works of lead singer Morrissey and guitarist J. Marr, one of the most celebrated creative partnerships of all time, are showcased here on this two-disc retrospective set. While all the greatest Smiths tracks are featured here, there are also some deep cuts that will please even the most dedicated fan of the Smiths.

  • Neil Young -

Neil Young: Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House 1968
Capturing one of Canada's greatest talents at the very beginning of his illustrious career, this disc - recorded in 1968 - stands out as a glimpse into the naive, yet profound potential of this artist. This recording shows the vulnerability, promise, and vision that would eventually unite to make an honest artist who continues to have his finger on the pulse of society.

  • Ours -

Ours: Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy)
An incredible record from an incredible band. This is easily my favourite release of 2008 thus far. Words have a hard time describing the soaring vocals of Jimmy Gnecco, a man whose talent can only be heard to be believed. If you don't check out their record, get to their myspace. You won't be disappointed.

  • Hey Rosetta! -

    Hey Rosetta!: Into Your Lungs
Into Your Lungs is produced by Canadian master musician and songwriter Hawksley Workman. Hey Rosetta! (the exclamation mark is part of the name) are a band hailing from the east coast of Canada. Although their style reflects that geography with some folk-inspired moments, they also stray far enough away into their own territory to make this a very interesting listen.

  • Biffy Clyro -

    Biffy Clyro: Puzzle
This Scottish group is the best thing to come out of Europe since Muse. I wouldn't compare their style to Muse's, but their musicianship, technical abilities, and songwriting abilities are nothing short of amazing. "Puzzle" is an album that tells a story, front to back. You will not regret picking this one up.

Percussion Ensemble Completes the Trifecta

Gold3

On the evening of Thursday May 15th, at 11:30pm, the SHDHS Percussion Ensemble took the stage.  After an amazing, energetic and precise performance, the ensemble received a gold standing.  The energy in the theatre throughout the performance (and especially afterwards) was amazing to experience, and South Huron again made a huge impression on the large crowd that gathered to watch them perform. Many thanks to all of the 'roadie' helpers for our percussionists and for the huge amount of audience support from our Senior Band and Wind Ensemble who came out to support the percussionists.  Congratulations are especially due to the percussion ensemble, for all of your hard work and dedication to the artform this year.  You have undoubtedly earned this amazing high standard and you should be very proud.

And with this, our school has completed the trifecta of Bronze, Silver and Gold.  Well done SHDHS Music!

Great Movies

  • : Michael Clayton (Widescreen)

    Michael Clayton (Widescreen)
Michael Clayton is an intense legal drama that defies a number of conventions of the genre. A pleasant breath of fresh air in terms of Hollywood "drama", this film proves that all you need is a good story, told well, to make a great movie.

  • : Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy (Widescreen, 3 Discs)

Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy (Widescreen, 3 Discs)
A guilty pleasure, the Back to the Future trilogy is a standout work in the nostalgic minds of many. That said, there are some interesting cinematic techniques used to combine footage of the original with the sequels and some intelligent storytelling. Highly recommended.

  • : Memento (Widescreen Limited Edition) [2 Discs]

Memento (Widescreen Limited Edition) [2 Discs]
The story of a man with short-term memory loss framed in a groundbreaking narrative shell. Director Chris Nolan tells this story in reverse, beginning with the end and working sequentially backwards towards the beginning of the situation. The direction forces viewers to question what a beginning and an end are, and allows us to feel as our main character does, never knowing what happened just before what is happening in the here and now. Brilliant.
